My love for creativity and the natural world has always been an integral part of my life. My early childhood years were spent living in the picturesque coastal town of Esperance, in Western Australia. I spent much time with my family travelling and exploring the coast, and bushland of Western Australia. For twelve months we created some of our fondest memories travelling through Northern Australia along with our pet cat in a HiAce van towing a little old silver caravan. My mother who is an artist taught me how to identify and draw found objects from nature. Feathers and shells were my most beloved objects to collect. I was a contented child if I had a one-dollar paint palette from Woolworths and some pencils to draw with. I used my imagination to create with my hands. Art was my best-loved subject throughout my schooling and when I graduated from high school I continued my art education during the1990s through TAFE, and Curtin University, studying art, design and illustration.

I believe anything can be created once I envision it in my mind. My subject matter is nature, whether it be an arid landscape, a beautiful bird, a soft feather or a scruffy bird’s nest. I am drawn to naturalistic colours, patterns, textures and forms. Through art and illustration, my work often tells a story of my travels and focuses on elements of beauty I see within the environment. I work with traditional mediums including pen and ink, gouache and the delicate medium of watercolour. There is no going back and correcting when working with these mediums. Watercolour intrigues me because it is controlled by the flow of water and has a magical transparent beauty. Spontaneous organic shapes, lines, and textures can be achieved, by allowing the pigments to flow, mix, and granulate on the paper. In my eye watercolour is the truest medium to nature.

Today, I happily live and create within my quaint studio cottage nestled in the Western Australian Wheatbelt town of Merredin. I continue to share my love for travelling with my partner, road-tripping through Northern Australia during the dry season, camping and exploring the magnificent landscape together. As an artist, I will forever enjoy the process of learning and evolving. I love collaborating and exhibiting my work with other artists and I am proud to say over time I have achieved a few art awards. Check out my Art Blog to see my public mural projects.
